Thanksgiving Message to American Law Enforcement

To American Law Enforcement:

John F. Kennedy once said, “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.”

As we show gratitude across the nation today, those of you in uniform continue the important work of fighting crime and keeping people safe. Each of you live by your oath to serve your community at any cost. In the face of extraordinary challenges, you are steadfast in your mission.

The Profession I love and the one you have sworn an oath to be a part of has never been more difficult. Often caught in the middle of politics and rhetoric — and now the rise in crime across the nation — police continue to stand tall. We should all be thankful for that. Know that the vast majority of the public is grateful for what you do.

When in doubt, remember why you took your oath and why you became part of something greater than yourself. Know that your work matters and you make a difference every day you strap on a gun belt, vest, and badge.

Thank you for choosing to serve our communities, and for being the future of policing. I wish you and your loved ones a happy Thanksgiving.

Sincerely,

Bill Bratton
