To American Law Enforcement:
John F. Kennedy once said, “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.”
As members of law enforcement, you embody our former President’s words. Each of you live by your oath to serve your community at any cost. You remain steadfast with heads held high in the face of any challenge.
The Profession I love and the one you have sworn an oath to be a part of is a difficult one. But I firmly believe that the vast majority of the public is grateful for your work and commitment to fighting crime and disorder.
Each of you, as you put on your uniform, are part of something greater than yourself. You are part of a storied history of men and women who put the safety of others ahead of their own — and all too often make the ultimate sacrifice. It's their legacies and important work you carry on.
Thank you for choosing to serve our communities, and for being the future of policing. I salute you, and wish you and your loved ones a happy Thanksgiving.
Sincerely,
Bill Bratton
